Jack M. Gill serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington and holds the position of Professor in the Practice of Entrepreneurship at Rice University and the Texas Medical Center. Previously, he was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School, MIT (2000-2010), and Stanford University.
Dr. Gill earned a chemistry and engineering degree from Lamar University (1958) and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Indiana University (1963), receiving Distinguished Alumnus Awards from both institutions alongside Lufkin High School.
His research spans Entrepreneurship, Venture Capital, and Technology Commercialization, rooted in early work on Instrumentation and Organic Chemistry. He authored 50 technical papers on gas chromatography, HPLC, laboratory computerization, and instrumentation advances, lecturing globally on these topics and Entrepreneurship.
Accolades include the 1999 Horatio Alger Award and a 2001 Honorary Doctorate of Science from Indiana University, complemented by numerous Entrepreneur and Teaching Awards across the United States.
As retired Managing Member of Vanguard Ventures, Dr. Gill led $500M+ in investments for companies like Ciena and Network Appliance. He currently advises the Indiana University Deans’ Advisory Boards, UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship as Chairman of its Senior Advisory Board.
