Jack L. Harris is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Director of the Undergraduate Sustainability Minor in the Department of Human Ecology at Rutgers University. He previously held roles as Visiting Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Assistant Professor at SUNY New Paltz, where he was recognized as a Sustainability and DEI Faculty Fellow. His career spans academic leadership, strategy consulting, and nonprofit governance.
Dr. Harris focuses his research on hyperlocal organizing, community networks, and disaster recovery, particularly following Hurricane Sandy. He authored the book Hyperlocal Organizing: Collaborating for Recovery Over Time, and his current work examines urban coastal food systems in the Mid-Atlantic. His work integrates network analysis, resilience theory, and stakeholder engagement to address complex socio-environmental challenges.
His scholarly contributions emphasize organizational resilience, crisis communication, and interorganizational collaboration. Awards include SUNY New Paltz's Sustainability and Diversity Faculty Fellowships. His teaching expertise includes strategic communication, nonprofit management, and responsible research conduct.
