معرفی
Jack J. van Wijk is a Full Professor in Visualization at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). With a career spanning over three decades, he has pioneered research in information visualization and visual analytics, integrating methods from statistics, machine learning, and data mining to support human exploration of complex datasets.
- Education: MSc in Industrial Design Engineering (1982), PhD in Computer Science (1986), both from Delft University of Technology.
- Research Focus: Information visualization, visual analytics, hierarchical data, network visualization, and explainable AI.
- Key Applications: Event data, vessel traffic, medicine prescriptions, and multivariate data.
His work has led to the development of treemaps and techniques for dynamic network exploration, emphasizing the integration of automated methods with intuitive user interfaces. Recent projects focus on visually explaining machine learning models, particularly decision trees and vessel behavior analysis.
Scientific Awards:
- 2007 Visualization Technical Achievement Award
- 2021 VGTC Visualization Lifetime Achievement Award
- Best Paper Awards at IEEE VIS (2014), VAST (2015), and PacificVis (2013)
