Jack Howell is an Artist Lecturer in Clarinet at the School of Music, Carnegie Mellon University. He holds notable positions as Principal Bass Clarinet of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and has served in various other orchestras including the New Zealand Symphony, New Mexico Symphony, and Wheeling Symphony. His chamber music engagements include the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Sunflower Music Festival, and Western Slope Music Festival. He has performed with prestigious groups like the St. Louis Symphony and Cleveland Orchestra. Additionally, he is a D’Addario artist and authored The Lovely Reed: An Enthusiast’s Guide to Building Bamboo Fly Rods.
His professional history spans multiple continents and ensembles, emphasizing orchestral performance and chamber music. His expertise in clarinet performance is complemented by his work in instrument craftsmanship, as evidenced by his published book on bamboo fly rod construction.
