Jack Hare is an Assistant Professor at Cornell Engineering, focusing on experimental plasma physics. He earned a B.A. (Hons) and M.Sci. in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge (2010–2011), an M.A. in Plasma Physics from Princeton University (2013), and a Ph.D. in Plasma Physics from Imperial College London (2017) under Professor Sergey Lebedev. His research centers on high-energy-density laboratory plasmas, particularly processes like magnetic reconnection, magnetized shocks, and turbulence, which are critical for astrophysical dynamics and fusion energy stabilization.
- Current research involves the PUFFIN pulsed-power generator at MIT (2021–2025) and Cornell University (2025–present).
- Teaching interests include Plasma Physics, Plasma Diagnostics, Controlled Fusion, Electromagnetism, and Circuits.
Scientific Awards
- NSF CAREER Award (2023)
- MIT Ruth and Joel Spira Award for Distinguished Teaching (2024)
- Michigan Institute of Plasma Science and Engineering Early Career Lecturer (2023)
- European Physical Society Plasma Physics Division PhD Research Award (2018)
