Jaakko Turunen is a Senior Lecturer at the Academy of Public Administration and teaches at Södertörn University, specializing in political science and social work. He holds a PhD from Södertörn and Uppsala Universities (2015), an MA from the University of Helsinki, and a BA from the University of Exeter. His research focuses on semiotics of politics, parliamentary discourse, civil society organization via social media, and biopolitical analysis in Polish politics.

Research Interests: Turunen’s work bridges semiotics, hermeneutics, and conversation analysis to study political dialogue. His doctoral thesis analyzed parliamentary debates in Poland and Slovakia through Bakhtin’s dialogicality and Lotman’s semiotic frameworks. Current research explores civil society dynamics via social media and biopolitical dimensions of Polish parliamentary discourse.
Teaching & Outreach: He teaches political science and social work methods at Södertörn, including qualitative and quantitative research methods. Designed courses on Nordic Politics for exchange students and SWPS University in Warsaw. Regularly comments on Finnish-Swedish politics for media like Sisu Radio and SVT Uutiset.
Professional Activities: Member of the editorial board for Idäntutkimus (Finnish Review of East European Studies) since 2005. Co-organized the 15th International Bakhtin Conference in Stockholm (2014). No current active research projects listed.
