JOSE RAMON VEIGA ALONSO

Jose Ramon Veiga Alonso is a Professor in the Department of History at the University of Santiago de Compostela, affiliated with the Teacher Training Faculty. He holds a PhD from the same institution for his thesis on "The Count of Pallares and his time 1828-1908: politics, railways and agrarianism in Galicia" (1998), supervised by Dr. Xosé Ramón Barreiro Fernández.

His research focuses on political and agrarian history of Galicia, particularly clientelism, political elites, and rural governance in the 19th and 20th centuries. He leads the HISTAGRA research group, dedicated to agrarian and political history of the rural world. His work explores themes like political mobilization, the role of elites, and the interplay between state structures and local networks.

Major publications include studies on Galician political culture, figures like Roque Barcia Martí and Juana de Vega, and analyses of historical processes such as the Liberal Restoration era.
