JF Williams is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Simon Fraser University (SFU), within the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs), singularity formation dynamics, and numerical methods for PDE analysis. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Bath (2003). His work integrates asymptotic analysis, computational modeling, and rigorous mathematical approaches to study self-similar singularity structures in PDEs. Recent research includes variational characterization of blow-up in thin-film equations, stability of singular radial profiles in harmonic map flows, and development of equidistribution-based adaptive numerical methods.
Key research interests span applied mathematics, industrial mathematics, and interdisciplinary topics such as fourth-order PDE bifurcations and simulation methods coupling discrete/continuous systems. His recent publications (2023–2024) explore diverse fields including environmental chemistry (e.g., monoterpene emissions, ozone-human interactions), biomedical engineering (stroke outcome models), and computational physics (fusion reactor simulations).
