JEFFREY GAGNE is an Associate Professor and Ph.D. Program Coordinator in Developmental Sciences at Texas A&M University, serving as Associate Department Head for Research and Faculty Development in the Educational Psychology Department. He holds roles as Administrative Fellow for Texas A&M University Faculty Affairs and Assistant Dean. His research focuses on child self-control, temperament, emotion, and cognition, incorporating genetic and biological approaches. Key projects include the TEXAS Family Study (TFS) and the Early Self-Control Development and School Readiness Study (SCD Study). He investigates how early life factors like stress, parenting, and family dynamics influence child development, including studies on pandemic impacts via the SCD Study.
Education: B.A. in Psychology (Boston College), M.Ed. in Counseling & Psychology (Boston University), Ph.D. in Developmental Science (Boston University). Postdoctoral training at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Previously served as Assistant Professor at University of Texas-Arlington (2011–2017).
Research Interests: Multi-method studies of self-control, temperament, and socio-emotional development. Explores genetic and neurophysiological mechanisms linking child behavior to psychopathology and academic success. Recent work includes studies on preschool self-control, ADHD-related behaviors, and longitudinal follow-ups of early developmental trajectories.
Grants & Funding: Co-PI for TAMU T3 (2018–2020); PI for TAMU College of Education Catapult Round 4 ($29,331, 2018–2019). Active in securing institutional support for developmental research programs.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Texas Family Study and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams in ESPY and Psychology departments at Texas A&M. Active in data collection and analysis for longitudinal child development projects.
