معرفی
Prof. Dr. Jörg R. Hörandel is a leading Professor of Astroparticle Physics at Radboud University and also holds a professorship at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He serves as the Chair of the Department of Astrophysics at Radboud University and plays a pivotal role in advancing cosmic ray research through experimental and phenomenological studies.
- Expertise in astroparticle physics and cosmic rays
- Chair of the Department of Astrophysics
- Director of the International School of Cosmic Ray Astrophysics in Erice
Research Interests
Hörandel investigates the origin of cosmic rays, focusing on the „Knee“ in their energy spectrum and the development of novel detection techniques for astroparticle and medical physics. His work spans:
- High-energy cosmic ray measurements via air shower experiments
- Phenomenological modeling of cosmic ray spectra
- Radio detection methods for cosmic rays (Pierre Auger Observatory)
Grants & Leadership
Recognized for his contributions, he received an ERC Advanced Grant for radio detection research. He has chaired:
- Committee for Astroparticle Physics in the Netherlands (CAN)
- Commission on Astroparticle Physics (C4) of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), serving as secretary
Teaching & Education
He actively contributes to education through courses in Astroparticle Physics and supervising Master’s theses at Radboud University, while also directing the International School of Cosmic Ray Astrophysics in Erice to train future scientists.
