J. Walter Sterling is the eighth president of St. John’s College Santa Fe (since July 2024) and previously served as dean (2015–2024) and teaching faculty member since 2003. He holds a B.A. from St. John’s Annapolis, an M.A. in Philosophy from Emory University, and an MBA from Notre Dame. Sterling champions the college’s Great Books curriculum and has led major initiatives including a $325M capital campaign, financial restructuring, and launching a new master’s program in Middle Eastern Classics.
