J. N. Moorthy

J. N. Moorthy is a Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), specializing in organic photochemistry, supramolecular chemistry, and mechanistic organic chemistry. He earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and has held academic positions at IIT Kanpur since 1998, currently serving as a full professor since 2008.

Research Focus: His research integrates structural design with functional reactivity, primarily in three domains:

• Organic Photochemistry: Investigating steric and electronic control of photoreactivity, including Norrish Type II reactions and helicity-dependent photophysical properties.
• Supramolecular Chemistry: Designing organic zeolite mimics (MOFs) and amorphous organic materials for OLED applications.
• Mechanistic Organic Chemistry & Synthesis: Developing and studying IBX-based oxidation reagents, with emphasis on catalytic and chiral variants.
