J. Michelle Cawthorn

J. Michelle Cawthorn is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Georgia Southern University's College of Science and Mathematics. She teaches courses including Concepts of Biology, Environmental Biology, Ecology and Evolution, Animal Behavior, and Mammalogy.

Research Interests: Dr. Cawthorn specializes in the ecology and behavior of small mammals, with projects focusing on:

• Population dynamics of Peromyscus polionotus (oldfield mice)
• Movement patterns of free-ranging cats
• Hormone profiles and foraging behavior of ring-tailed lemurs
• Nesting habits of gray squirrels in urban environments
• Service-learning pedagogy in large biology classrooms

Her lab also conducts campus-wide vertebrate biodiversity surveys.
