J. Keith Nisbett

Dr. J. Keith Nisbett is the Chancellor’s Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T). He holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington. His academic career at Missouri S&T spans over four decades, including roles such as Associate Chair for Mechanical Engineering (23 years), Interim Chair of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Associate Professor.

Dr. Nisbett’s research focuses on machine design, kinematics, and mechanisms synthesis, complemented by significant contributions to engineering education. He is the editing author of the globally recognized textbook Shigley’s Mechanical Engineering Design and has mentored student design teams, including robotics competitions and S&T’s robotics summer camp. His community engagement includes a 12-year tenure as Chair of Missouri’s Amusement Ride Safety Board.

Dr. Nisbett has received extensive teaching accolades, including the Missouri Governor’s Award for Teaching Excellence and multiple S&T Outstanding Teaching Awards. His professional service includes roles on editorial boards and academic advisory committees. His publications emphasize textbook development, kinematic analysis, and engineering pedagogy.
