J. Dillon Brown is an Associate Professor of English at Washington University, specializing in postcolonial literature and theory with a focus on the English-speaking Caribbean. His research bridges formal textual analysis with historical and sociological contexts of Caribbean literary production.
- PhD from University of Pennsylvania
- Office: Duncker 111, Washington University
His work interrogates transnational literary intersections, particularly between Caribbean, British, and American traditions, challenging nationalist frameworks in postcolonial studies. Current projects explore the United States' cultural and political influence on Caribbean literature from 1898 to the present.
Professor Brown teaches courses such as Caribbean Literature in English, Introduction to Postcolonial Literature, and International Modernism/World Literature. His first monograph, Migrant Modernism (2013), recontextualizes postwar Caribbean novels within British modernist traditions, while co-edited collection Beyond Windrush (2015) expands critical frameworks for mid-century Caribbean literature.
