J. Burke Rea serves as Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Co-Director of the Minor in Bioethics & Medical Humanities within the Philosophy Department of Eastern University's College of Arts and Humanities.
His research centers on philosophy of action and bioethics, with current work analyzing responsibility for omissions in end-of-life care decisions (e.g., treatment refusal), heavily informed by Aristotelian tradition through Thomas Aquinas and G.E.M. Anscombe. Additional scholarly pursuits include philosophical theology, philosophical anthropology, and medieval philosophy.
Prior to Eastern University, Dr. Rea held academic positions at Baylor University, Boston College, and California State University Fresno. Personally, he is married to a fine artist specializing in oil painting and jewelry; they share interests in digital/tabletop gaming, collaborative creation (he makes drinks while she prepares baked goods), and aesthetic discourse.
