معرفی
J Michael Kosterlitz is the Harrison E. Farnsworth Professor of Physics at Brown University, where he has been a faculty member since 1982. His career spans prestigious institutions including Oxford University (PhD in high energy physics), Cambridge University, Cornell University, Princeton University, Bell Telephone Laboratories, and Harvard University. Current research focuses on condensed matter theory and critical phenomena in low-dimensional systems.
Education:
- PhD in High Energy Physics, Oxford University (1969)
- BA and MA, University of Cambridge
Professor Kosterlitz's research explores condensed matter theory, with emphasis on phase transitions, random systems, electron localization, spin glasses, and critical dynamics including melting/freezing phenomena. His work applies mathematical physics to understand complex systems through phase-field modeling, gauge glass models, and numerical simulations.
Scientific Awards:
- Harrison E. Farnsworth Professor of Physics at Brown University
He teaches advanced courses in quantum many-body theory, statistical mechanics, and classical theoretical physics, contributing to both undergraduate and graduate education in physics. His publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining computational methods with analytical theory in low-dimensional systems.
