Prof. Dr. Jürgen Debus is the Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Medical Director of Heidelberg University Hospital. He holds a professorship in Clinical Radiology and Radiation Therapy at the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University. His academic career includes leadership roles at the Heidelberg Ion Beam Therapy Center (HIT), the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT), and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ).
Research Focus: His work centers on advanced radiation therapies, including proton and ion beam therapy, precision radiotherapy, and imaging-guided oncology. He has pioneered clinical applications of particle therapy and developed novel radiotracers for cancer imaging.
Awards: Notable honors include the Robert-Wilson-Preis (2019) for contributions to particle therapy and the Alfred-Breit-Preis (2016) for advancements in radiation oncology. His research has led to over 1,000 peer-reviewed publications and two textbooks in the field.
Grants & Projects: He leads major initiatives like the BMBF-funded PM4Onco project (AI-driven personalized medicine) and the DFG-funded TRR 125 (cognition-guided cancer surgery).
