Iván Albalate Gauchía is a researcher at Miguel Hernández University and a member of the Optical-Analog Languages and Digital Resources (LOARD) research group. He has been associated with the interuniversity research group Elástica Variable since 2004 and collaborates with the School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan. His work bridges theoretical physics, visual perception psychology, and artistic creation through painting and pre-photographic optical devices.

His research focuses on pre-photographic optical devices, leading to a national patent for the Selective Focus Diorama Viewer. Scientific awards include the UMH Research Productivity Award (2015), UMH Teaching Talent Award (2015), and the International Prize for Contemporary Art Meetings (2014). His research integrates iconic discourse, painting techniques, and the intersection of art, education, and cultural theory.
