Ivar Sønbø Kristiansen is a Professor at the Department of Health Management and Health Economics, University of Oslo. He holds a PhD from the University of Tromsø (1996), an MPH from Harvard University (1986), and an MD from the University of Oslo (1966). His academic roles include Senior Researcher positions at institutions such as the Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services and the Institute of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark. He has been awarded the SMDM Career Achievement Award (2016) and the Petter Moen Memorial Prize.
His research focuses on economic evaluation of healthcare programs, chronic disease modeling, and risk communication. Key areas include cost-effectiveness of cancer screening, healthcare resource allocation, and policy analysis. He teaches courses such as HMM4401 (Health and Medicine) and HMM4301 (Optimal Allocation of Healthcare Resources).
