Ivan Volosyak

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ivan Volosyak is a Professor at Hochschule Rhein-Waal – University of Applied Sciences, where he leads research in biomedical engineering and brain-computer interfaces. He began his academic career with a Diploma in automation and control systems from Dnepropetrovsk State University, Ukraine, followed by a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Bremen, Germany. At the University of Bremen, he developed project management expertise through leadership roles in national and EU-funded initiatives, complemented by visiting positions at Graz University of Technology (Austria) and Glasgow University (UK).

His research focuses on brain-computer interfaces, signal processing, and assistive technologies, particularly for spinal cord injury rehabilitation. He co-supervises 3 PhD students with Radboud University (Netherlands) and Bielefeld University (Germany), and teaches microcontroller and microprocessor courses that emphasize industry readiness and student independence. In his lab, he fosters a dynamic, action-oriented environment.

Outside academia, he maintains a sharp mind through chess and enjoys family time. His work ethic and technical leadership are evident in projects like ABCI, EBCI, BCI@Home, and M³S, which highlight his expertise in third-party funded research initiatives.
