Ivan Muñiz Olivera

Ivan Muñiz Olivera is a Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He is affiliated with the Grup de Recerca en Economia Aplicada research group and has been actively involved in academic and research activities since at least 1992. His work primarily focuses on urban economics, environmental policy, and spatial planning.

Dr. Muñiz Olivera holds a PhD in Economics (1997) and a Licenciatura (1991), both from UAB. He has led or contributed to multiple research projects funded by institutions such as the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the European Regional Development Fund. His recent projects include studies on urban air quality, telework impacts, and sustainable city planning.

His research interests include urban spatial structure, polycentrism, ecological footprints, and greenhouse gas emissions. Notable contributions analyze the carbon footprint of U.S. metropolitan areas and the effects of urban form on pollution. He has published extensively in journals like Cities and Sustainability, with over 60 research outputs and an h-index of 15.

Current projects (2022–2025) investigate air pollution mitigation strategies and the socio-economic challenges of future cities. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable cities and communities.
