Iurii Simonov

Iurii Simonov was a Research Professor at the Laboratory of Physical Methods for Studying Solids 'Tadeusz Malinowski' within the Institute of Applied Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Over his 50-year career, he made significant contributions to crystallography and structural studies of coordination, organic, and supramolecular compounds. His work was published in over 600 peer-reviewed articles and international journals, alongside numerous conference abstracts and national reports.

Simonov’s research extended beyond Moldova, fostering collaborations with institutions in Europe, North America, and Asia. He co-led international projects and established partnerships with chemists and crystallographers globally. His legacy includes the establishment of the 'Iurii Simonov' Memorial Award, which supports innovative research in solid-state physics and crystallography.

He served as the head of his laboratory until his passing, succeeded by Victor Kravtsov. His contributions were recognized by peers such as Sergei Aldoshin and Maria Gdaniec, who later reviewed works for the Memorial Award committee.
