Itamar Kastner serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics and English Language at the University of Edinburgh's School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences (PPLS), where he leads the EdinMorph research group and acts as UCU Edinburgh local contact for PPLS. He is also a member of the LAGB subcommittee on racial and social justice.
His research investigates interfaces between grammatical modules with emphasis on word structure across languages and modalities. Key focus areas include:
- Morphology-syntactic interactions in diverse linguistic systems
- Computational modeling of lexical semantics and morphophonology
- Argument structure realization across language families
- Critical approaches to pedagogy and assessment methodologies in higher education
Dr. Kastner currently supervises three doctoral candidates:
- Iona Carslaw
- John Hotson
- Iris Kamil (recently passed viva)
His recent scholarly activities include papers accepted to Language and the Journal of Linguistics, upcoming presentations at CogSci 2025 and The Grading Conference, and co-authorship of a blog post addressing academic standards during industrial action.
