Italo Alves is an Instructor in the Philosophy Department at Loyola University Chicago, where he also holds a PhD. His research focuses on the intersection of Social and Political Theory with Aesthetics, particularly exploring normative claims in expressive social actions. He has held visiting positions at institutions including Concordia University of Edmonton and Goethe-Universität Frankfurt.

His work examines critical theory, high/popular culture dynamics, and Hegelian legal philosophy. Recently awarded the Robert M. Adams–Charlotte W. Newcombe Fellowship, his research is supported by the Newcombe Foundation, DAAD, and Brazil’s CNPq. He co-edits Revista Porto Alegre, focusing on arts and humanities.
Upcoming presentations include SPEP 2025 discussing Axel Honneth’s theories on recognition and social visibility. His grants include international collaborations across North America and Europe.
