István György Bessenyei is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, University of Pécs, where he has been employed since 1985. He also serves as a regular guest lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca since 2003.
His educational background includes a degree in programming mathematics from József Attila University, Szeged (1984), an economist's degree from Janus Pannonius University of Pécs (1992), a university doctorate (1994), and a Ph.D. (2003) from the same institution, followed by habilitation in 2011.
Professor Bessenyei's research focuses on dynamic economics, business cycle analysis, and economic growth models. He has authored two influential textbooks: "Basic Theories of Economic Growth" (1995) and "Newer Theories of Macroeconomics and Macroeconomic Policy" (2007). His work bridges theoretical economic modeling with practical applications in macroeconomic policy.
His recent publications (2016) explore corporate strategy within linear activity analysis and optimal resource allocation in the context of the blue economy, reflecting an interdisciplinary approach that combines economic theory with sustainability principles.
His contributions to the field were recognized in 2019 with the Béla Krekó Award by the Hungarian Economic Modeling Society. Additionally, he served as editor-in-chief of the journal Szigma from 2010 to 2023 and continues as co-editor.
