István Erős is a Professor at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, where he served as Head of Department. He also held key roles at Eszterházy Károly University (Eger), including Director of the Visual Arts Institute (2016–2018) and Department Head (2008–2018). His educational background includes a DLA (Doctor of Liberal Arts) from the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts (2009) and a habilitation from the University of Pécs (2014), focusing on nature-art interdisciplinary studies.
His research explores Nature Art, Environmental Sculpture, and cross-cultural artistic practices, emphasizing ecological themes and site-specific installations. Erős integrates Eastern and Western artistic approaches, utilizing natural materials to critique human-nature relationships. His publications and artworks frequently address ephemerality and environmental ethics.
Erős has curated major international events like the Geumgang Nature Art Biennale (2018) and symposiums across Europe and Asia. He mentors students in environmental art, with advisees winning awards such as the Pro Arte Gold Medal. Grants and collaborations include residencies in Mexico, India, and South Korea, often supported by organizations like YATOO International.
