Isola Brown is an Assistant Professor (Fixed-term) and Director of Online Programs in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at Michigan State University (MSU), affiliated with the College of Osteopathic Medicine. She holds a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from MSU (2012–2017) and a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania (2008–2012). Her research focuses on neuropharmacology, oxidative stress, and enteric glial cell dysfunction in gut pathology, with recent work exploring glutathione's role in colitis and purinergic pathways in neuron loss.
Dr. Brown directs MSU’s Online Masters Programs in Pharmacology and Toxicology, teaching courses such as Neuropharmacology, Cellular and Molecular Toxicology, and Fundamentals of Drug Safety. She has secured grants including the NIH Multidisciplinary Training in Environmental Toxicology (2015–2016) and NIH Basic Cardiovascular Research Training Grant (2017–2018). Her publications span neuroinflammation, mitochondrial function in neurons, and diagnostic advancements in thrombocytopenia.
Professional activities include postdoctoral training at the University of Virginia (2017–2019) and the University of Michigan (2019–2021). She advises the Online Masters Program and leads the MS Capstone Literature Review course. Her work bridges laboratory research with clinical applications in pharmacology and toxicology education.
