معرفی
Professor Ismail Yilmaz is a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). He holds the rank of Professor and has been actively involved in academic research since at least 1996. His research focuses on phthalocyanine chemistry, chemical sensors, and analytical methodologies, with a strong emphasis on environmental and biomedical applications. Yilmaz has supervised 24 student theses, including master's and PhD projects, and has led 18 research projects funded by institutions such as TÜBİTAK and BAP. He has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the TÜBA-GEBİP Young Scientist Award (2004) and multiple scholarships for academic excellence.
Education and Career: His career includes postdoctoral research abroad (2000), and he has held academic positions at ITU continuously since his early career. His educational background includes undergraduate, master's, and PhD studies supported by BAYG, BİDEB, and other scholarships.
Research Interests: Yilmaz’s work spans synthetic chemistry, spectroscopy, and electrochemistry. His group develops advanced sensors for heavy metals (e.g., Hg²⁺, Cu²⁺, Be²⁺) and environmental contaminants using phthalocyanines, naphthoquinones, and chromenylium-cyanine platforms. Recent projects include smartphone-integrated sensors, NIR spectroscopic methods, and gas sensor technologies.
Publications and Impact: With over 80 publications in high-impact journals like Spectrochimica Acta and Journal of Materials Chemistry C, his research bridges fundamental chemistry and applied sensor technologies. His articles focus on sensor design, mechanism elucidation, and real-world applications in environmental monitoring, biomedical diagnostics, and material science.
Grants and Leadership: As Principal Investigator (PI), he leads projects on chemical sensor development, including EU-funded initiatives. His lab collaborates internationally, addressing challenges in pollution detection and material innovation.
Labs and Teams: His research group at ITU’s Chemistry Department is known for interdisciplinary projects combining organic synthesis, analytical techniques, and device engineering. Current efforts include projects on beryllium detection, bisulfite sensing, and OFET-based gas sensors.
