Islam H. El-Adaway serves as the Hurst-McCarthy Endowed Professor at Missouri University of Science and Technology with joint appointments in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering within the College of Engineering and Computing. He concurrently holds leadership roles as Associate Dean for Academic Partnerships, Founding Director of the Missouri Consortium for Construction Innovation (MO-CCI), and Director of the Civil Infrastructure System-of-Systems Interdependency Laboratory (CI2SI-L).
His educational foundation includes a PhD in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University and MSc/BSc in Construction Engineering from the American University in Cairo, complemented by professional licensure as a US Professional Engineer and UK Chartered Engineer.
Dr. El-Adaway's research program focuses on sustainable infrastructure resilience, risk management frameworks, and construction technology innovation. His work integrates computational methods like machine learning and system dynamics to address critical industry challenges in labor productivity, contract disputes, and safety management, with strong emphasis on practical industry applications through academic-industry partnerships.
Recent publications reveal accelerating trends in artificial intelligence applications for construction, circular economy implementation, and data-driven risk modeling, characterized by interdisciplinary approaches combining game theory, probabilistic forecasting, and network analysis to solve complex infrastructure management problems.
His extensive recognition includes:

His leadership extends to the CI2SI-L laboratory, which develops system-of-systems solutions for infrastructure interdependency challenges, and MO-CCI's industry consortium with major construction firms including McCarthy Building Companies and Clayco.
