Dr. Isis da Costa Arantes is an Instructional Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of Mississippi, affiliated with the Department of Biology in the College of Liberal Arts. She specializes in evolutionary biology, focusing on phylogenetics, species delimitation, and amphibian evolution in Neotropical and North American regions. Her research integrates molecular techniques with ecological studies, particularly examining diversification patterns in amphibians of Brazilian savannas and population genetics of invasive species like the southern pine beetle.
Education: B.S. in Biological Sciences from Universidade de Brasília (2007), Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Mississippi (2019). Postdoctoral work included studies at Garrick’s lab on Neotropical amphibians and southern pine beetle population dynamics.
Teaches courses in genetics, cell/molecular biology, microbiology, and fundamentals of microbiology. Labs: Ecology and Evolution Research Lab.
