Ishan Barman is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, with joint appointments in the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center and the Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science. His research focuses on biomedical imaging, bioengineering, and biophotonics, leveraging nanomaterials and artificial intelligence to address challenges in biological and clinical research. He leads the Barman Laboratory, pioneering advancements in SERS-based sensing, quantitative phase imaging, and plasmonic nanotechnology.
Education: B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (2005), SM and PhD from MIT (2007-2011). Postdoctoral research at MIT's G.R. Harrison Spectroscopy Laboratory.
Research Interests:
- Biophotonics and nanomaterials for disease detection
