Isha Agarwal is an Assistant Professor in the Finance Division at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia. She holds an MA and PhD in Economics from Cornell University. Her research focuses on financial intermediation, macro-finance, and international finance, with an emphasis on banking systems, monetary policy transmission, and cross-border capital flows.
Education: PhD in Economics (Cornell University), MA in Economics (Cornell University).
Research interests include the interplay between banking and macroeconomic policies, the role of media narratives in capital flows, and the impact of inflation on financial intermediation. Her work frequently explores regulatory frameworks, shadow banking mechanisms, and emerging market dynamics.
Selected publications include 'Inflation and Disintermediation' (conditionally accepted at the Journal of Financial Economics) and 'Lending by Servicing: Monetary Policy Transmission through Shadow Banks', which received the Best Paper Award at the 2022 International Finance and Banking Society Conference.
Teaching includes Corporate Finance courses at the Sauder School of Business. Her research has been recognized through awards and grants focusing on financial stability and policy design.
