Isabella Urban is a Research Associate and PhD Candidate at the Chair of Information Systems and Transformation Management within the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen, a position she has held since April 2024. Her research focuses on the strategic implications of digital transformation in organizational contexts under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ralf Plattfaut.
Her academic background includes:
- Master of Science in Business Administration from RWTH Aachen University (2021-2024) with specialization in Corporate Development & Strategic Management
- Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from RWTH Aachen University (2017-2021)
Urban's research integrates Digital Transformation, Dynamic Capabilities, and Strategy through Technology and Innovation Management frameworks. She employs mixed-method empirical approaches (quantitative and qualitative) to investigate organizational adaptation to digital disruption, with particular emphasis on capability development and strategic alignment in transformation processes. Her work bridges theoretical management concepts with practical industry applications.
Her 2025 publication in Information Systems Frontiers establishes critical connections between digital responsibility frameworks and successful transformation outcomes, analyzing nationwide empirical data to reveal how ethical considerations permeate digital strategy implementation. This research demonstrates growing scholarly attention to the socio-technical dimensions of digital initiatives beyond pure technological adoption.
Urban's professional experience includes significant contributions to practice-oriented research at ifaa – Institute of Applied Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics (2021-2024), where she supported projects on Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence implementation (including the BMBF-funded KI_eeper project), and leadership challenges in digital contexts. This industry engagement informs her academic perspective on real-world transformation barriers and enablers.
