Isabel Pujol Payet

Isabel Pujol Payet is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philology and Communication at the University of Girona, Faculty of Arts, specializing in the Spanish Language. She has been a faculty member since 1993, initially as an associate professor and later as a Titular Professor since 2002. Her academic roles include teaching core and elective courses in historical grammar, history of the Spanish language, normative grammar, lexicography, and Spanish language teaching methodology.

Her research centers on diachronic linguistics, particularly historical morphology and the evolution of parasynthetic verbs in Spanish. She investigates word formation, semantic change, and morphosyntactic interfaces across historical stages of the language.

The recent publications highlight a consistent focus on parasynthetic verbs, prefixation, suffixation, and lexical evolution in Spanish, drawing from Latin origins to modern usage. Key themes include polysemy, derivational morphology, and methodological approaches in diachronic analysis.

She leads the research project Variación en la interficie morfología-sintaxis, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, and is part of a recognized research group supported by the Catalan government. She has held significant administrative roles, including Vice-Rector for Staff and Social Policy, Department Director, and Director of the Master’s program in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language.

She is actively involved in academic publishing, having authored journal articles, book chapters, and edited volumes on lexical morphology and historical linguistics. Her work contributes to both theoretical and applied domains of Spanish linguistics.
