Isabel Maria de Sousa Gonçalves is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Aveiro. She holds a PhD in Organometallic Chemistry from Instituto Superior Técnico (1996) and has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Aveiro. Her primary research focuses on designing catalytic materials, particularly molybdenum-based systems for epoxidation and sulfoxidation reactions. She has authored over 265 SCI publications (h-index 45) and holds 15 patents.
Her research spans organometallic chemistry, materials synthesis, and luminescent materials. Notable contributions include the development of hybrid catalysts and CO-releasing molecules. She collaborates with institutions in Portugal (e.g., University of Coimbra, Algarve) and internationally (e.g., TU Munich). She has reviewed for leading journals like Angewandte Chemie and Chemistry – A European Journal.
Her current projects involve modifying metallocene catalysts using molecular containers and developing eco-friendly catalytic processes. She advises multiple PhD and MSc students, including Diana Julião, Lucie Nogueira, and Clara Magalhães. Her work also includes collaborations on layered double hydroxides and lanthanide complexes.
