Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropologyمعرفی
Isaac Stead serves as a Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Linguistic and Cultural Evolution at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology since 2021, conducting PhD research within the CoOL group.
His academic background includes:
- Master of Arts in Linguistics from Victoria University of Wellington (2019-2020)
- Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from Victoria University of Wellington (2016-2018)
His research investigates Austronesian language phylogeny with emphasis on early branching structures and New Caledonian language relationships. He develops innovative phylogenetic methodologies for historical linguistics while examining horizontal transmission processes and synergies between traditional comparative approaches and computational techniques. This work bridges theoretical linguistics with quantitative evolutionary modeling.
His publication record demonstrates focused expertise in Austronesian classification, particularly through morphosyntactic analysis of the Malayo-Polynesian branch. These contributions advance understanding of language family evolution and methodological integration in historical linguistics.
He actively participates in the CoOL research group's collaborative projects at the institute.
