Isaac Haruna Ziaba is an LSE Fellow in Qualitative Methods at the London School of Economics and Political Science's Department of Methodology. He completed his PhD in International Development at LSE in 2022, focusing on the politics of natural resource governance in sub-Saharan Africa. His research examines regime responses to artisanal mining in Ghana and Tanzania through qualitative methods including interviews, focus groups, and fieldwork observations.
Research interests center on political economy of natural resources, with emphasis on artisanal mining governance, electoral processes, and conflict prevention. Current projects investigate Chinese mining investments in Africa and miner adaptation strategies during state repression. Methodologically, he specializes in comparative analysis and thematic interpretation.
Ziaba teaches courses MY421 and DV202 while contributing as a reviewer for academic journals including Review of African Political Economy and The Extractive Industries and Society.
