Isaac Choi, PhD, serves as Associate Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Honors Program at George Fox University. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Notre Dame (2013), master's degrees in philosophy and theology from Princeton Theological Seminary (MDiv and ThM), and an undergraduate degree from Harvard College where he initially studied physics and chemistry before turning to philosophical and theological questions.
Choi's research program spans several interconnected areas within philosophy of religion and epistemology. His primary interests include the nature and epistemology of expertise, particularly regarding how to decide between disagreeing experts, as developed in his doctoral dissertation. He also investigates analytic theology topics such as petitionary prayer, divine action, the cosmological fine-tuning argument for God's existence, theological anthropology, and the epistemic significance of tradition and majority opinion in theology. His work often bridges technical philosophical analysis with substantive religious questions, demonstrating how contemporary philosophy can engage with theological concerns.
Analysis of his publication record reveals a consistent trajectory exploring the intersection of epistemology and religious belief. His most recent work has focused on majority opinion in theology (2021) and theological authority (2024), while maintaining his longstanding interest in fine-tuning arguments and the epistemology of religious belief. His publications appear in respected venues including Oxford University Press collections and the Journal of Analytic Theology, demonstrating scholarly recognition within the philosophy of religion community.
