Prof. Irmgard Brockmann is a retired Professor of Music Theory and Ear Training at the Institute of Music, Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (2000-2022). She currently teaches at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her expertise focuses on 20th-century music, music pedagogy, and contemporary composition analysis. She pioneered the 'Komponistenforum' series featuring composers like Rebecca Saunders and Helmut Lachenmann, and developed innovative teaching methods integrating auditory analysis with music theory.
Her research includes seminal works on Bernd Alois Zimmermann and György Ligeti. She co-founded the MorgenlandFestival and Musik 21 society. Recent projects include a digital education initiative at Mainz and the 'Kaleidoskop' CD compilation with student/composer collaborations.
