Irma Corral

Irma Corral, PhD, is Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine, University of Nevada, Las Vegas. A licensed clinical psychologist and Las Vegas native, she returned to UNLV in 2023 after a distinguished tenure at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine where she served as Assistant Dean for Diversity & Inclusion, Course Director in psychiatry education, and Clinical Service Chief for behavioral medicine.

Research & Clinical Focus

Dr. Corral’s scholarship centers on sociocultural and structural determinants of health behavior and chronic illness, with particular attention to racial/ethnic disparities in physical and mental health. Clinically she specializes in pre-surgical psychological evaluation and behavioral management of chronic illness. Her educational research has advanced biomedical pipeline programs, medical-student success initiatives, physician-workforce expansion, and equitable access to care. In her current role she leads faculty-development programming, mentors first-generation students, and champions medical-Spanish curricula for future health professionals.

Dr. Corral is credentialed by the National Register of Health Service Psychologists and licensed to practice in Nevada and North Carolina. She is an active member of the American Psychological Association, the Society of Behavioral Medicine, and the Association of Psychologists in Academic Medical Centers. Through these roles she advances culturally informed care, evidence-based education, and equitable health outcomes for underserved populations.
