Iris Tommelein

Professor Iris Tommelein is a leading academic in sustainability science and civil engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. She currently holds the Roy W. Carlson Chair and Distinguished Professor position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Additionally, she served as a TUM Ambassador in 2024, reflecting her ongoing collaboration with the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Her work bridges academic research and practical applications in construction, automation, and logistics.

• Collaboration with TUM: In 2023, she worked with Professor Johannes Fottner at the Chair of Materials Handling and Material Flow Logistics, TUM School of Engineering and Design and TUM School of Management.

Her research focuses on interdisciplinary sustainability science, with a particular emphasis on integrating automation and robotics into construction, logistics, and manufacturing systems. During a visit to BAUMA, she explored technical and organizational aspects of construction equipment automation alongside TUM students, highlighting her commitment to advancing industry practices through academic insights.
