Irina Garbatzky

Irina Garbatzky is an independent researcher at Argentina's National Council for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICET) and an assistant professor of Ibero-American literature at the National University of Rosario (UNR), where she also serves as professor in writing and research. She co-founded the journal El jardín de los poetas (The Garden of Poets), directs the "Migratorias" book series at Beatriz Viterbo publishing house, and serves on the board of the Instituto de Estudios Criticos en Humanidades (IECH) at UNR.

Garbatzky holds a PhD in Arts and Humanities with a major in Arts and Literature from the National University of Rosario (UNR).

Her research centers on transdisciplinary intersections between literary studies, cultural studies, archives, performance, Latin American poetry, and orality. She reconceptualizes archives as dynamic constellations encompassing documentary materials, voices, gestures, heterotopias, and cultural practices beyond traditional documentation. Her work critically examines how immaterial, social, and imaginary experiences are archived in Latin America, particularly since the late 20th century.

Specializing in performance studies and avant-garde studies, she investigates modern/postmodern historical reflections (traditions, utopias, transtemporality), biopolitics, and corporeality within Latin American contexts. Current research focuses on Cuban studies, analyzing connections between Cuba, the East, and the Soviet Union through literary productions since the 1990s, including the "archive of the East" metaphor for transcultural identity redefinition, migrant archives, cosmopolitanism, and transnationalization of Latin American intellectual networks.

Garbatzky's institutional leadership includes co-founding El jardín de los poetas journal, directing the "Migratorias" book series on migration studies, and active governance within UNR's Instituto de Estudios Criticos en Humanidades.
