Irina Fehr is a PhD candidate and Researcher at the Department of Criminal Law, Tilburg Law School, Tilburg University. She holds a M.A. in European Global Studies (University of Basel) and a B.A. in Political Science (University of Zurich). Her research focuses on criminal law’s role in migration control at EU external borders, combining legal, political, and ethnographic approaches. Key themes include crimmigration, state crime, and critical theory.

Her doctoral project examines the application of criminal law to unauthorized migration facilitation and unlawful border practices in Croatia. She explores intersections of EU migration policy, criminal law, and border criminology. Recent work addresses state-perpetrated crimes during migration control and legal accountability mechanisms.
She participates in interdisciplinary collaborations, including the MOBILE Center of Excellence for Global Mobility Law. Her research outputs include analyses of city ID cards as tools for migrant rights enforcement and critical examinations of pushback evidence in legal contexts.
