Irina Barclay

Dr. Irina Barclay is a Professor in the Department of Russian & Russian Literature at Appalachian State University, part of the Languages, Literatures & Cultures School. She holds a PhD (1995) and BA/MA (1988) from Tver State University, Russia. Her research focuses on Russian literature, historical linguistics (17th–19th century Russian language), and Slavic toponymy. She actively teaches in Russian and English, emphasizing pedagogical methods for critical language learning. Notable achievements include StarTalk grants (2011–2013) for developing Russian language programs and a 2013 teaching award.
