Ireny Iskandar

Dr. Ireny Iskandar serves as a Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice at the Division of Pharmacy and Optometry, University of Manchester, specializing in pharmacoepidemiology using large clinical databases including UK Biobank and Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD).

Her academic journey began with a BSc in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Clinical Pharmacy) with honors from Cairo University in 2012, where she ranked first in her class. She earned her PhD in Pharmacoepidemiology from the University of Manchester in 2017, funded by the President's Doctoral Scholar award, focusing on biologic therapies for psoriasis using real-world data from the British Association of Dermatologists Biologic and Immunomodulators Register (BADBIR).

Dr. Iskandar's research spans pharmacoepidemiology, psoriasis, occupational health, and health inequalities. She has made significant contributions as co-lead epidemiological researcher for the Global Psoriasis Atlas and through her work with The Health and Occupation Research network (THOR). Her research program has secured £732,626 in grant funding as a Co-Investigator on projects examining occupational skin and respiratory diseases.

Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on occupational disease trends, particularly examining the impact of metals like nickel, chromium, and cobalt on skin and respiratory conditions, as well as investigating how psoriasis affects fertility and pregnancy outcomes. These studies demonstrate her expertise in cohort analysis and epidemiological methods.
