Irene Rima Makaryk is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Arts. Her work focuses on Shakespeare reception, theatrical modernism, and the role of theatre during periods of social upheaval such as wars and revolutions. She has conducted extensive research on Soviet theatre, particularly the works of Ukrainian director Les Kurbas.
