Dr. Dedoussi's research interests center on sustainable transportation and energy systems, with a particular focus on aviation emissions and their atmospheric and health impacts. Her work takes a multi-disciplinary, systems-level approach to analyze mitigation strategies, including sustainable engineering design, alternative fuels, energy-efficient operations, and regulatory policies.
Her research spans atmospheric impacts of combustion emissions, examining how by-products from energy, industrial, and transportation sectors affect atmospheric composition, leading to air pollution, nitrogen deposition, and climate change. Since aviation emissions occur at high altitudes, she investigates the unique physical and chemical mechanisms of this sector's environmental effects.
Dr. Dedoussi has published extensively on aviation's climate impacts, the atmospheric effects of alternative fuels, and the health consequences of air pollution. Her work has been covered in numerous news outlets including the New York Times, CNN, and Forbes, and has been referenced in Wikipedia and policy documents.
Scientific recognitions and awards include:
- 2023: Elected Fellow of the Netherlands Academy of Engineering
- 2023: Best Climate Science paper of 2022 (PhD candidate Jin Maruhashi), TU Delft Climate Action
- 2021: Appointed member of De Jonge Akademie, KNAW
- 2020: Veni Grant (Early Career Talent programme), Dutch Research Council (NWO)
- 2020: Forbes 30 under 30, Science and Healthcare Europe list
She has advised numerous PhD and MSc students on projects related to aviation emissions, atmospheric impacts, and sustainable aviation. Her team includes current PhD candidates Irina Besnea, Jurriaan van 't Hoff, Luccas Kavabata, and Zain Robson, among others.
