Irene Caminschi is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Monash University's Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, affiliated with the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute. Her research focuses on dendritic cell biology and its application to immunotherapy design, with a particular emphasis on antigen presentation mechanisms and vaccine development.
Education: PhD from The University of Western Australia (focused on IL-12 and anti-tumour immunity), postdoctoral training at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI) under Prof. Shortman, investigating dendritic cell subsets and their roles in adaptive immunity.
Research Themes:
- Dendritic cell heterogeneity and functional specialization
- Molecular targets for immunotherapy
- Adjuvant-vaccine combinations for enhanced immunity
- Liver-resident memory T cell generation
Key Projects (selected):
- A bispecific antibody to synergise checkpoint blockers in oncology (2021-2024)
- Protecting against malaria via liver-resident memory T cells (2018-2021)
- Immunogenicity assessment of CpG adjuvants in cancer models (2017-2018)
Her work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals addressing good health and well-being (SDG 3).
