Irene Brox Nilsen is a Guest Researcher at the University of Oslo's Section for Geography and Hydrology (GeoHyd), part of the Department of Geosciences. She holds a PhD in hydrology from the University of Oslo (2017) and has held roles including Researcher at the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE), Doctoral Research Fellow at UiO, and teaching positions in hydrology courses. Her research focuses on hydroclimatology, stochastic hydrology, land surface modelling, and climate impacts on physical systems.
Education:
- PhD (2017): 'Detecting and attributing recent warming in Europe', University of Oslo
- MSc (2011): 'Runoff coefficients during extreme rainfall', University of Oslo
- BSc (2008): Hydrology, University of Oslo
Research Interests: Irene investigates climate-driven changes in hydrological systems, including snow cover dynamics, temperature trends, and actionable climate information for policy. Her work integrates stochastic methods and land surface modelling to assess climate impacts on water resources and infrastructure resilience in Norway and Europe.
Grants & Projects:
- EMERALD Project: Focuses on terrestrial ecosystem-climate interactions.
- Contributions to climate impact assessments for Norwegian infrastructure and water management.
Labs/Teams: Active in the University of Oslo's Department of Geosciences research groups, collaborating on climate-hydrology interfaces and extreme event analysis.
